A Grateful Heart...

This is the time of year when my family generally posts a large piece of butcher paper along one wall in our living room and begin to list.

1000 Things we are Grateful For...

It is no small task for a family of four to complete our list by Thanksgiving.  Eventually we start becoming grateful for random things like "electrical outlets" or "not having gum stuck to the bottom of my shoe".

This year, however, three of us felt a little different about making the list with Kalli gone serving the Lord for 18 months. We found ourselves grateful for her service, but missing her made us want to serve too.

We began looking for inspiration.  For Family Night, we watched the Mormon Messages "Opportunities to Do Good"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qQApICCALo  and  "Seven Days of Service"  https://www.lds.org/youth/video/7-days-of-service?lang=eng

We read from the Book of Mormon, Mosiah 2:17 "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
Our modern day prophet, President Monson, reminds us that "It's the service that counts"  and also "There are always :
  • Feet to steady
  • Hearts to inspire
  • Souls to save."
Thanks to some Facebook inspiration, we came up with our own "Giving Tree".  Now the fun begins! Each time we do an act of service for someone, no matter how small, we glue a leaf on our tree.

This reminds us to show our gratitude by serving others.  This Thanksgiving season, we hope to
Give a little for we have much to be thankful for.
